Our annual picnic took place on 17 August on the beach at Whitstable – and this year the theme was the problems of access and use of the sea for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, so it felt very appropriate to be at the seaside – and poignant to realise our freedom here in contrast to Gazans’ inability even to fish their own waters beyond a very restrictive limit.
When we had recovered from the sudden gusts of wind and downpour of rain we got to work. We put up our Palestinian flags and handed out leaflets. Many people signed our petition and we collected £70 for the Disaster Emergency Fund. A very successful but wet afternoon. Well done everyone.
The followed a very well-attended Gaza benefit event early in August 2014, held at Whitstable Labour Club, which raised over £2000 for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
